The S2000's renowned high-revving, 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine remains the pinnacle of naturally aspirated performance technology, delivering 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine's output characteristics is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws.

The S2000 comes equipped with a Drive-by-Wire throttle control system eliminating the need for a mechanical connection between the throttle pedal and the engine. This enables continuous electronic monitoring and adjustment of throttle pedal sensitivity to create an ideal match between throttle response and driving conditions. The system also manages the S2000's cruise control function for greater precision.

Honda's VSA system makes the S2000 more stable and forgiving during street driving or in inclement weather conditions. Working in concert with the Drive-by-Wire system, VSA continuously monitors yaw rate, steering input, throttle input, and braking pressure to determine if the car is following the driver's intended path, and can independently coordinate each of the disk brakes through the 4-channel anti-lock brake system, along with the throttle, to enhance vehicle stability. While this serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it. To help provide optimum stopping power, the braking system also features Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.

The S2000's rear-wheel-drive chassis and powertrain layout results in a 50/50 front/rear weight distribution for perfect balance when cornering, while its hybrid monocoque body and "high X-bone frame" results in exceptional structural rigidity. Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver.

Standard features for the S2000 include a power retractable convertible top, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, leather trimmed seats and High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with daytime running lights. An aluminum hardtop and XM Satellite Radio are available as dealer installed options.

For 2007, the S2000 is available in six colors, including, Laguna Blue Pearl, Silverstone Metallic, New Formula Red, Rio Yellow Pearl, Berlina Black and Grand Prix White.

The 2008 Honda S2000 represents the purest expression of Honda fun-to-drive DNA with its 2-seat, open-topped roadster configuration and sophisticated front-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform. The instrument panel has a revised meter design for the fuel and temperature gauges, adding to the aesthetics of the display. Specifically, the fuel and temperature meters now reside along the arc formed by the tachometer instead of a semi-circle configuration below and to the right of the tachometer. Also, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has been added.
The S2000 has dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags (SRS) for the driver and passenger, three-point seat belts with load limiters and automatic tensioning system, roll bar hoops and reinforced windshield posts. For pedestrian safety, the hood hinges and windshield-wiper pivots are designed to collapse and help minimize the severity of a head injury to a pedestrian.

 The 2009 Honda Fit Sport is the closest thing Honda currently offers to the classic tuner-favorite Honda sport compact hatchbacks of the late 1980s and 1990s. As first generation Honda/Acura Integras, Civic Hatchbacks and Honda CRX sport compact cars continue to be popular with the tuner set 20 years or more after they were originally released, much of Honda's current lineup has grown in size, weight, sophistication and... boredom.

The snarly little 2009 Fit Sport is the hot hatch most like the CRX that we will probably see from Honda any time soon. Its base price undercuts the Civic by less than one might think, but the Fit is a different character of car. For 2009 Honda has added a little size, but the Fit is still one of the smallest cars on the road. With this extra size and room, though, the Fit's curb weight is only upped by 40 lbs.

Why are we covering the Fit, with only 117 horsepower coming from a 1.5 Liter Inline 4, on RSportsCars.com? The Fit Sport, with Navigation system and standard 5 Speed Manual, comes in at a curb weight of 2600 lbs. Other sport compacts of today weigh hundreds of pounds more. With some Honda tuning magic, the Fit Sport has the potential to be a true hot hatch daily driver, in the vein of the Civic hatchbacks, VW GTI and CRX of old, before small, cheap, replaceable cars had to be comfortable and boring.

We've seen some truly magic things done to the D15 Series of 1.5 Liter Honda motors. The powerplant in the 2009 Fit is significantly more advanced, and loves to rev with a redline of an outstanding 6800 rpm. Will the Honda tuning community pick up the 2009 Fit Sport, throwing their factory warranties in the garbage in favor of a balanced, fun-to-drive small car with real power? Bet on it.

 For many drivers and sports car fanatics, the Honda S2000 epitomizes exactly what an open-top sports car should be. No where south of a Lotus Elise are buyers offered a car more pure a performance machine.

When Honda released the first-generation S2000 in 1999, automotive journalists everywhere gave it universal praise. Though it is much more expensive than the similar, though much less powerful, Mazda MX-5, the S2000 has evolved over the last several years though stayed true to form.

The only RWD car in Honda's current lineup, the 2009 S2000 carries over the DOHC VTEC 2.2 Liter motor and body style from the 2008 model. Changes are limited to paint and interior options, and a new vehicle stability control system (VSA), which is as sophisticated as cars costing double the S2000's $34k price point. Much to the delight of track racers everywhere, the S2000's VSA system can be defeated.

While it perhaps prices itself above the heads of many of its intended buyers, the 2009 Honda S2000 is as pure a driver's car as any of the major auto manufacturers offer. 2007 Honda Civic Type R Specifications

The hotly-anticipated Honda Civic Type R goes on sale in March 2007 in the UK, and it's been well worth the wait.

While it's just as exhilarating to drive as the outgoing Civic Type R, the latest high performance version is a more refined 'superhatch', with improved comfort levels, integrated styling and handling tuned for enhanced responsiveness and predictability.

The new Civic Type R continues to be powered by the naturally-aspirated, high-revving 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine but the unit has been significantly reworked to improve responsiveness using a new balancer shaft and drive-by-wire throttle control. VTEC variable valve timing and VTC variable inlet camshaft technology continue to underpin the engine structure.

Further development of the Type R unit means more useable torque, as the switch to high-lift, long duration valve timing (the cam change) now takes place at a lower 5,200 rpm, and continues all the way to 8,000 rpm. So that screaming, high rpm VTEC range is broader and more accessible. To mark the entry to this 'power band' a new i-VTEC indicator just to the right of the digital speedometer is illuminated once the revs rise above 5,200 rpm.

Maximum power is now 204 bhp, reached at 8,000 rpm and the car is more responsive generally, while improved aerodynamics ensure the new car cuts through the air more cleanly. Slightly lower gearing compensates for a small increase in kerb weight.

Acceleration figures are expected to be virtually identical to the 6.4-second 0-60 mph time of the outgoing car - and the new car should match its top speed too, powering on to 146 mph.

The chassis of the Civic 5-door - already widely praised for its handling balance - forms the basis for all 3-door models and provides an ideal platform for the Type R.

Building on the Civic Type S suspension, which is fine-tuned for sharper chassis dynamics, the Type R takes those modifications to the next level. Like the Type S, its rear track is almost an inch wider than that of the 5-door model, but otherwise damper, bush and spring characteristics are all unique to Type R.

Broad 225/40 ZR18 tires provide added grip, while a half an inch reduction in ride height further reduces body roll. Firmer steering, a quicker ratio and stiffer steering box mountings all provide pin-sharp responses to steering wheel input, while the fuel tank's central location beneath the cabin floor helps to lower the center of gravity and reduces the body's inertia moment.

While the styling of previous Civic Type Rs has almost been an after-thought, the latest car enhances the already-bold appearance of the Civic to build an incredibly assertive look. Seven-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard and - helped by the car's low ride height - these tuck neatly under the body colored arches.

The deep front spoiler incorporates a larger air intake to channel air to the induction system, as well as triangular foglamps. There's no missing the distinct body-colored tailgate rear spoiler, which follows the kick-up line from the rear quarter windows, and provides added down-force. At the front, a black honeycomb mesh grille replaces the glass panel of other Civics, sporting - of course - the infamous red 'H' badge.

Inside, it's all about the driving experience. Front seats are racing-style buckets with large black Alcantara bolsters and red stitching, red fabric seat cushions and backs. The seat bench in the back repeats the same color combination.

Also available will be a fully-equipped GT version, with additional features such as cruise control, dual zone air conditioning, fog lights, automatic lights and wipers and curtain SRS bags. A voice-activated, state-of-the-art navigation system is offered as an option.

The Civic Type R goes on sale in the UK in March 2007. Pricing is yet to be announced.

The changes to the JGTC Honda NSX race cars were apparently so fundamental that Honda had to make a certain number of road legal vehicles to comply with the JGTC rules. Only five NSX-R GT models will be made (production will start in August) and all of them had already been sold.

2006 Toyota Corolla Compressor Specifications

Available only in strictly limited numbers, the Corolla Compressor uses the same 1,794 cc VVTL-i four-cylinder engine as the T Sport, but with a supercharger added to boost output from 189 to 215 bhp and technical adjustments to meet Euro IV emissions standards. That helps knock one-and-a-half seconds off the car's 0-62 mph acceleration time, down to 6.9 seconds, and adds 3 mph to the top speed, now 143 mph.

Thanks to extra torque at lower engine speeds - a maximum 159 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm - the Corolla Compressor delivers supremely flexible performance: acceleration from 50 to 75 mph in fifth gear is accomplished in 8.5 seconds, while the shift from 37 to 62 mph in fourth takes only 6.1 seconds.

To cope with the power hike, the Corolla Compressor is fettled with 15mm lowered sports suspension and uprated springs for extra handling performance. It looks the part, too, riding on 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45 tires and dressed with a roof spoiler, deep rear air dam and sports exhaust with twin tailpipes.

Only 250 right-hand drive Corolla Compressor models are being made available in the UK, so potential owners will have to move almost as quickly as the car they desire in order to secure one. The model goes on sale in the UK on 1 November 2006, priced on-the-road at £19,995. It's not immediatelly clear if Corolla Compressor will be available in North America.

The GT-S model offers solid black seating in either fabric or optional leather-trimmed surfaces and features. Italdesign-Giugiaro and Toyota have collaborated to produce a stunning new concept for the Geneva Motor Show. It features the new Lexus RX400h's hybrid powertrain, combined with a carbon fibre chassis and sports car body engineered and produced by the famous Italian style and development company.

With a top speed of 155 mph, 0-62 mph acceleration in a scorching 4.03 seconds, and a range of some 430 miles, the Toyota Alessandro Volta concept car proves it is possible to offer high performance in a car whose green credentials are unimpeachable. The car is named after Alessandro Volta, the Italian scientist who discovered the battery.

The striking Hybrid Synergy DriveO powertrain combines a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine with 2 powerful electric motors which provide the Alessandro Volta with a total output of 408 bhp (300 kW).

The hybrid powetrain is mounted in a midship position, as the front wheels are powered by the second electric motor, generating 4-wheel traction without the need for a transmission shaft. Consequently, the vehicle's flat floor permitted Italdesign to house three passengers in a 167.7-inch long coupe.

The Toyota Alessandro Volta is a styling exercise aimed at exploring new applications of the Hybrid synergy DriveO technology. Toyota is proud to have collaborated with the prestigious Italdesign-Giugiaro on a concept that further demonstates the potential and flexibility of the Hybrid Synergy DriveO technology.

Pairing a potent hybrid powertrain with essential sports car fundamentals, the FT-HS concept was a joint undertaking of Calty, Toyota's North American-based, research and design center located in Newport Beach, Calif., and Toyota's California-based Advanced Product Strategy Group. The design team was assigned the task of creating a mid-priced sports car that integrates ecology and emotion in a concept that addresses the question "What is a suitable sports car for the 21st Century?"

"Drivers today are not satisfied with cars that are simply fast," said Kevin Hunter, vice president, Calty Design Research. "In addition to driving enjoyment, today's drivers are concerned about safety, ecology and social responsibility."

The FT-HS incorporates hybrid capability while maintaining sports car essentials, such as a sleek profile, lightweight aero-dynamic materials, and an advanced high-output powertrain for revolutionary acceleration and optimal performance. This 21st century sports car is fun-to-drive with eco-friendly benefits such as ultra-low emissions and fuel efficiency. The FT-HS appeals to an emerging buyer who grew up eco-conscious and perceives technology as a necessity, not a luxury.

This two-plus-two concept is a front-engine, rear-drive sports car with a projected zero-to-60 acceleration in the four-second range. A powerful V6, 3.5L-engine is coupled with a 21st century sports hybrid system with a target power output of approximately 400-horsepower. At a mid-priced market position, FT-HS would be a true "attainable exotic" with 21st Century performance.

FT-HS expresses the core values of a Toyota Brand design strategy that combines two key elements: J-Factor and Vibrant Clarity. J-Factor refers to the local and global acceptance of Japanese-inspired design and cultural sensibilities. Vibrant Clarity is the design language used to express the J-factor much in the same way that L-Finesse is the language of the Lexus Division. It is the combination of perfect imbalance, freeform geometrics and integrated component architecture. The result of these three elements is subtractive mass, a minimalist style that is not only lightweight, but also looks lightweight.

The exterior design was led by Calty designer, Alex Shen. From a design perspective, the theme of the FT-HS achieves sleek, taut surfaces in its exterior features - especially in the doors and body style. The front and rear have been sculpted to remove mass around key functional components. Freeform geometrics define the integration of fluid surfaces contrasting hard-edge "Aero-Corners" which promote smooth airflow and reduce turbulence.

The roof has a distinctive scooped-out section designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and provide head room at the key areas. Made from carbon fiber Kevlar, the roof retracts so that the roof panel and back window pivot fluidly in a downward motion to stow in the rear seat space.

The vehicle's triangular profile has a floating "C" pillar, aero corners, a full upper-body pan, and innovative open top. A hood features a scalloped channel, exposing the hybrid engine. Integrated component architecture can be seen in the aerospace-inspired lighting. The tail lamp unit spans the entire rear, and has an integrated retractable spoiler. Light-emitting diode (LED) clusters are located in the headlamps and the wing for energy-efficiency and decreased heat loss. Other exterior features include a speed-activated wing that elevates at high speed for additional stability and traction. The rear showcases a carbon fiber lower diffuser with integrated wide exhaust and carbon fiber wheels.

The driver-oriented interior was created by Calty designer, William Chergosky and exudes sleekness, technology, and performance. The lean skeletal look is achieved with exposed cross-car architecture and high-tech materials such as carbon fiber, and titanium. FT-HS' interior features create a dedicated driver's cockpit which include subtractive mass expressions such as cross-car instrument panel structure and delta wing driver pod. The delta-wing driver's pod integrates many useful functions into a lightweight structural unit. All of the important functions and details are presented almost exclusively to the driver. For example, touch-trace sensors which surround the driver and act as tactile guides for finger controls when traveling at high speeds.

By eliminating the "B" pillar and creating a suspended "C" pillar, the minimalist style works in conjunction with subtractive mass. An integrated instrument panel surrounds the driver, creating an enclosed pod effect. Armrests flow seamlessly into the door and surrounding interior.

Seating is optimized for a lightweight appearance and function: the seating accommodates four and then coverts to a two-seater when the roof retracts. The passenger-seat area is open with a simple exposed airbag on the cross-car beam.

A telescoping hub-less steering wheel incorporates semi-automatic paddle shifters and allows the meter to be shifted forward in order to shorten the driver's focus-time between the road and meter, and ultimately enhance driver focus.

The Toyota Platz is a subcompact automobile that was manufactured in Japan by Toyota from 1999 through to 2005, when replaced by the Toyota Belta. Designated by Toyota as the XP10 series, the Platz was sold in export markets as either the Toyota Echo or Toyota Yaris.
